Wednesday, April 13, 2016

Sonatrach is handling production from the Khrechba gas field near In Salah, following the decision by its foreign partners to withdraw their staff after an attack on the facility. According to Algeria’s Minister of Mines and Energy, Salah Khebri, the attack in March was a “non-event.”

Statoil and BP withdrew their personnel when the facility was hit in a mortar attack. It should be noted that no staff were injured or equipment damaged by the attack.

Algerian authorities have provided the means and the conditions to ensure the security of the foreigners working in region, Khebri told the press following a conference on fuels, adding that “all the foreign companies are free to withdraw its staffs working in Khrechba site for security reasons.”

He did add that these firms were obliged to return their staff to fulfill their contractual obligations.
