Sonatrach Studies Iraqi Investments

Sonatrach, Algeria’s state-run oil and gas firm, is considering spreading its international reach once again with a possible investment in the Middle East. The firm is studying the possibility of investing in Iraq’s oil and gas sector, according to a statement from the Iraqi oil ministry.

The statement from the Ministry comes as Algeria’s Energy Minister, Mustapha Guitouni, was in Iraq with a delegation to hold meetings with Iraqi energy companies.

The statement from cited comments by Iraqi Oil Minister Jabar al-Luaibiwho said the meetings were to “achieve concrete steps toward sealing a cooperation agreement with Sonatrach,” mentioning specifically projects to develop Iraq’s gas wealth.

Guitouni expressed hope of strengthening cooperation in oil exploration and natural gas, the Iraqi Ministry statement said.
