South Africa is about to see a return of one of its major oil suppliers, Iran. Now that the Middle Eastern country has seen international sanctions lifted, Shell refineries in South Africa are said to be negotiating a resumption of Iranian crude for feedstock.
Imports of Iranian crude to South Africa were halted in 2012 under pressure from the West.
Iran’s state-run National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) said that it was in talks with several refiners in South Africa to begin supplying crude for their refineries.
NIOC’s International Affairs Director, Mohsen Qamsari, said so far several talks have been conducted with Shell, BP, and Petroliam Nasional Berhad about oil supplies to South Africa.
