The Minister of Energy of South Africa, Tina Joemat-Pettersson, revealed that the Ministry had solicited market information to assist in designing a Gas-to-Power program.
In addition, the government has plans for a new 600-MW gas-fired power generation plant to be developed under a public-private partnership. The private sector partners will take the lead role in developing, financing, operating and maintaining the facility.
While the Ministry did not reveal where it would be sourcing the gas for the project’s feedstock there has been talk of a possible LNG import terminal.
