South Sudan Assessing Oil Field Damage

In an effort to restore oil revenue to its coffers, the government of South Sudan is assessing the damage done to its oil fields as a result of over two years of civil war. The damage inflicted upon the fields is hampering the country’s plans to boost output, according to Petroleum Minister Dak Duop Bischok quoted in a Bloomberg interview.

The Minister said that the country needs the revenue from pumping more oil to help bring its economic crisis under control.

In the Bloomberg interview Bischok said the government is currently assessing the extent of repairs that need to be made to production facilities in the northern Unity and Upper Nile states.

Currently the country is only producing oil in South Sudan is the Upper Nile state.
