South Sudan Replaces Gatkuoth

Tuesday, June 18, 2019

Minister of Petroleum, Ezekial Lol Gatkuoth of South Sudan, has been relieved of his position. The news was relayed by government spokesman Ateny Wek on Radio Tamazuj. A presidential decree was signed replacing Gatkuoth with Awou Daniel Chuang, the general manager of the Petroleum Regulatory Agency.

No official reason for this dismissal was mentioned. However, Gatkuoth was out of the country last week. Wek explained that after an official mission to Russia, he went to Kenya and Nigeria for private reasons before adding that “these are normal routine changes that occur.”

Gatkuoth had been in post since 2016 and is the main player in the resumption of oil production
