South Sudan Requests CNPC to Boost Oil Output

Wednesday, October 25, 2023

According to various outlets and Bloomberg reporting, authorities in South Sudan have asked China National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC) to increase crude oil production from two of its biggest fields. The country is also asking that CNPC renew its production agreement set to expire in four years.

In 2020 it was reported that state-owned Nile Petroleum Corp. would take over some of the oil blocks when contracts from various operators expire, so this news comes as a reversal to the previous plan the country had included in its future strategy.
