Spectrum Completes Offshore Somalia Survey

Friday, May 6, 2016

Spectrum completed the 2D seismic program offshore south Somalia following the acquisition of 20,582.75 line km of data. The new acquisition complements 20,000 km of existing seismic that was acquired in 2014 and the two datasets will allow the in-depth study of hydrocarbon prospectivity offshore Somalia. The survey was completed without any incident.

Spectrum has already begun to process the data, for which interpretation will begin in the third quarter of 2016 and its findings will be announced by the government. This effort will reveal the resources, whether oil or gas, hidden beneath the sea-floor of the Indian Ocean.

Seven geoscientists from the Ministry participated on the acquisition of the data and trained on the ship executing the seismic shooting. These trainees will now travel to Egypt where they will study data processing and geologic interpretation at Spectrum’s imaging center there.
