Springfield Group subsidiary, Springfield E&P, announced Wednesday that it has made a 1.5 billion-barrel discovery off the coast of Ghana, confirming November reports that a discovery had been made. The indigenous company also said 0.7 trillion cubic feet of natural gas accompanied the oil discovery.
The discovery well, Afina-1x, is located in the 673 sq km West Cape Three Points Block 2 in the Tano/Western Basin, off the West African country’s Atlantic coast. Springfield also said in a statement that the undiscovered potential of the block was estimated at over 3 billion barrels of oil and gas.
“This is great news for Springfield, Ghana and Africa,” said chief executive Kevin Okyere. “We are excited about the discovery as it ties into our vision of becoming a leading African upstream player with a global focus.”
