Sudan News Agency, the country’s official news outlet, reported that the government has agreed to cut the transit fees for South Sudanese oil. Landlocked South Sudan exports its oil through Sudan via pipeline to the Red Sea.
Sudan previously charged South Sudan$24.50 per barrel in transit fees, with today’s crude prices South Sudan is barely making any revenue on its production.
“President of the republic agrees to reduce South Sudan Oil’s transit fees,” the news agency said in a brief statement. No further details were offered and it is unclear what the new fee will be for South Sudan.
