Swala and Tullow Select Drill Target in Kenya

Friday, October 10, 2014

Swala Energy and its partner on Block 12B onshore Kenya, Tullow Oil (operator), have identified a prospect to be drilled in H2 2015. The identification of the prospect follows the successful 2D seismic campaign on the block during Q2. The partners identified 10 structural leads, one of these being the Ahero ‘A’ lead. The Ahero is considered the most viable drilling candidate as it has been covered by a number of seismic lines.

The Ahero ‘A’ prospect is located on the northern margin of the Nyanza Graben and is transected by five seismic lines. It has an area of approximately 16 sq km and is the first major structure that could potentially trap any migrating hydrocarbons from the basin.

Dr. David Mestres Ridge, Swala’s CEO said: “We are very excited at the decision by the remaining parties to drill Ahero ‘A’, one of a number of prospects identified in Block 12B and which our technical teams are continuing to investigate.  With our recently announced successful 2D seismic survey over the Moshi basin and the upcoming seismic survey in Kilombero, both in Tanzania, we are on track to develop a significant portfolio of leads and prospects to be tested in the coming year.”

Spain’s Repsol used to be a partner in the block but recently decided not to move forward with its participation.
