Tanzania and Dangote Cement reached a deal that will have the East African country supplying natural gas to the firm’s cement factory in Mtwara.
Negotiations between the two had been going on for sometime, but had stalled out due to the inability to come to an agreement on pricing according to Tanzania’s president, John Magufuli.
After meeting Aliko Dangote, the company’s chairman, Magufuli blamed middlemen for interfering with supply plans and said the issue has now been resolved with gas supplies to be sold at a “reasonable” tariff.Details on the tariff were not offered.
“They (Dangote Cement) will now buy natural gas directly from the state-run TPDC instead of going through middlemen,”Magufuli told journalists after the meeting.
