In its latest block offering Tanzania received bids from several high profile international oil and gas firms. State-run firm TPDC put eight blocks up for auction; the blocks on offer included seven deepwater blocks and one block in Lake Tanganyika. The licensing round closed on May 15.
CNOOC and Gazprom were among the companies that submitted bids; Mubadala out of Abu Dhabi and RakGas out of UAE also submitted bids. Statoil and ExxonMobil, already partnered offshore Tanzania, submitted a joint bid for Block 4/3A. While the partners are already busy offshore the country they may have competition for the block as CNOOC also expressed its interest in the block with a bid.
“The evaluation process will start immediately and we will announce winners of the bids as soon as possible within the timeframe of the fourth licensing round,” Yona Killagane MD of TPDC told Reuters. Killagane did not say when the winners will be announced. The licensing round closed on May 15.
Gazprom applied for Block 4/3B, Mubadala applied for Block 4/2A, and RakGas applied for the Lake Tanganyika North Block. Four offshore blocks, 4/3B, 4/4A, 4/4B, and 4/4A did not attract any bidders.
