Tanzania Expects Big Reserve Increase

Thursday, August 22, 2013

Tanzania has big plans for its natural gas reserves over the next two years as the government expects to see its already significant reserve base increase substantially.

“It is expected that Tanzania’s natural gas resources will rise to 200 Tcf after the next two years,” the energy and minerals ministry said in a statement. This is five-fold what the country’s current reserves are pegged at.

The country’s energy ministry said on Wednesday that oil and gas exploration activities were being carried out offshore, along the coastline, lakes, and on onshore blocks.

An estimated 17 new wells are expected to be drilled over the 2013/2014 fiscal year according to a previous statement from Tanzania’s minister for energy and minerals, Sospeter Muhongo.
