Tanzania Licensing Round Ready to Go

Thursday, September 19, 2013

Tanzania is ready to offer up new acreage to those interested in exploring its already established potential. The government is launching the 4th Tanzania Deep Offshore and North Lake Tanganyika Licensing Round. The licensing round, originally scheduled to launch in 2012, will now launch on October 25 at the 2nd Tanzania Oil & Gas Conference and Exhibition. The round will close on May 15, 2014.

The round includes the deep offshore sedimentary basins comprising of seven blocks (averaging 3,000 sq km: Block 4/2A, Block 4/3A, Block 4/3B, Blk4/4A, Block 4/4B, Block 4/5A, Block 4/5B) and is located between 2,000 meters to 3,000 meters of water depths. The blocks have excellent coverage of modern regional 2D seismic data available from ION Geophysical and WesternGeco.

TPDC, Tanzania’s state-run firm, has reserved Blocks 4/1B and 4/1C itself to execute exploration using a strategic partner.

The North Lake Tanganyika block is located offshore in the western arm of the east African rift system. Lake Tanganyika is covered by sparse 2D seismic data collected in the 1980s during the African Lakes Drilling Project. The data and copy of report will be made available.
