The pipeline that will bring natural gas reserves offshore Tanzania into Dar es Salaam will be put into trial operation this month. The government said the commissioning of the pipeline is aimed at boosting power generation, supplying gas to factories and homes.
The pipeline was expected to be completed in 2014 but ran into to some technical problems.
TPDC, Tanzania’s state-run firm, said in a statement that, “gas processing plants and the natural gas pipeline will be ready for trial operation on July 29.” The statement went on to say that the trial would last between 40 and 60 days.
Once operational initial production is expected to start at 80 Mmcf/d in September, later rising to 130 million Mmcf/d.
