The industry could find out just where Tanzania will locate its planned LNG facility in the next week or so. The government has asked the companies involved, BG/ Ophir and Statoil ExxonMobil to make their plans public as early as next week, Tanzani’s Minister of Energy Sospeter Muhongo said.
“The location of the plant will be left to the companies,” Muhongo told Reuters. “They have now selected one site and we’ve told them to make an announcement, and I’m hoping they’ll do it next week,” Muhongo said.
In November it was reported that the firms were highly interested in a site located near Lindi, but there is a chance that the site selected could be in nearby Mtwara, which has been the supply base for firms exploring off Tanzania’s coast.
