In a statement carried on state television Morocco’s national oil company, Office of Hydrocarbons and Mining (ONHYM), reported that drilling on the Tarfaya offshore block had resulted in the discovery of a heavy oil column which was too complex to exploit.
The drilling at the Juby Maritime 1 site is being undertaken by Cairn Energy and Genel Energy.
Cairn and Genel spud the well on January 8 and reached the final depth of 3,835 meters on March 9. “However, the target has not shown a reservoir of good quality,” the statement by ONHYM said.
