Tema LNG Contracts Chinese Firm for Regasification Terminal

Tema LNG Terminal Company signed a contract with Chinese engineering firm China Harbor Engineering Company (CHEC) for the construction of an LNG regasification terminal at the port of Tema, Ghana during a visit to Beijing.

Tema LNG Terminal Companyhas been directed by Rosneft to provide regasification services, as part of its agreement to deliver 1.7 mtpa of LNG to GNPC over 12 years.

According to a statement posted on the Ghanaian Presidency website, the agreement was signed by OgbemiOfuya, director of Tema LNG Terminal Company, and Lin Yichong, president of CHEC, in the presence of Nana Akufo-Addo. Construction of the terminal is expected to be completed in the next 18 months, making it the first LNG regasification terminal in sub-Saharan Africa.

China Harbor Engineering Company, already involved in the Tema Port Expansion Project, is building marine facilities there.
