Wednesday, July 25, 2018

South Sudan and Sudan have deployed a joint military force to the border to monitor and protect the oilfields and pipelines in the Unity state, which straddles the border between the two countries. The joint force will monitor and protect

blocks 1,2, 4 and 5.

“Sudanese and South Sudanese government authorities have deployed a military force at the borders of both countries to secure oil fields and pipelines,”South Sudanese Oil Minister Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth told Sudan Tribune.

This operation is part of the repair program for the facilities destroyed during the war.

Gatkuoth expects repairs will be completed within the next two months for a start of production in September.

The revival of production in South Sudan will be beneficial for both parties, as Khartoum derives significant transit revenue from the flow of oil through its territory to its port that opens to the Red Sea.
