Three Somalis Convicted, Face Death Penalty for Killing Four Americans

Friday, July 12, 2013

A US District Court in Virginia found three Somali pirates guilty on 26 counts including piracy, kidnapping, and murder in the 2011 shooting deaths of four Americans.

The Americans were sailing in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of Oman, when the Somalis took over the yacht. When US military forces began trailing the boat, the pirates killed the hostages. The two couples included Scott and Jean Adam from California and Phyllis Macay and Robert Riggle of Washington.
