Tortue FLNG Could be Ready by 2021

Sunday, May 27, 2018

Mauritania and Senegal could become LNG producers as early as 2021, according to a BP executive. Andres Guevara, BP’s upstream business development director for gas said the FLNG Tortue project could be used to meet demand in Europe, Latin America, and Asia.

In an interview with Natural Gas World Guevara said, “I assume that potential buyers will think of Europe for a very simple reason: proximity. But Turtle’s location also offers options for a growing South American market where we see Brazil becoming an LNG importer in particular (…) Also Tortue’s location allows us to be competitive in Asia.”

The project, which should come into service in 2021, is expected to produce in the first phase between 2.3 and 2.5 mtpa of LNG. Golar LNG has been chosen to provide the floating liquefaction vessel.
