Total Aims to Be First To End Flaring in Nigeria

Monday, May 26, 2014

Total, in compliance with Nigeria’s policies, said it would likely be the first international firm to stop flaring natural gas from its offshore operations. Victor Bamidele, a Senior Development Engineer of the company, said that Total had assumed the philosophy to intelligently manage its resources and be committed to better energy by using gas to power equipment on the field.

“Our footprint is re-inject the gases to do proper reservoir management to make sure that we are able to provide oil for a longer period without degrading the environment. We have been doing it for a longer period of time and that makes us different from other oil countries in Africa countries and we have to make sure it works in Nigeria,” he said in a statement.

In addition, Bamidele said that the company had also invested in renewable energy, with the aim of reducing gas flaring and CO2.
