Total Black-Out in Uganda

Thursday, August 13, 2020

The Uganda Electricity Transmission Co. Ltd (UETCL) has reported by Tweet, that it is experiencing a nationwide blackout. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause and restore power as fast as possible, UETCL stated. Updates will be provided in due course. UETCL owns, develops and operates the bulk power network above 33kv in Uganda.

“We are experiencing a nationwide total blackout. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause and restore as fast as possible,” said a statement by the utility.

Umeme Limited, the country’s main electricity distribution company, said it is working with other stakeholders to restore power supply in the country.

“We are working with UETCL and all stakeholders to have power restored as soon as possible. All inconveniences caused are regretted,” it said in a tweet.

This is the fourth blackout in five months. In May, a similar blackout occurred also hitting neighboring Kenya. That outage on Uganda’s grid was caused by a fault on a high voltage line, which also affected Kenya as their grids are interconnected.
