Total E&P Nigeria Ltd. saw the completion of the construction on a section of its Northern Option Pipeline (NOPL), taking it from km 38 at Obigbo in Rivers state to km 50 at Imo River.
In a statement Total said that with construction work completed the pipeline is now ready to convey gas to one of the National Integrated Power Plants (NIPP) at Alaoji in Abia state.
Newly constructed power plants are having a problem with receiving an adequate supply of feedstock, to ensure early gas supply to power plants. The government requested that foreign firms, complete various gas supply projects to resolve the situation. The Total project will aid the Nigerian government to realize its goal of seeing an adequate supply of natural gas to the power plants. When completed later this year the project would deliver about 100 Mmcf/d to Alaoji power plant. The section of the pipeline where the line connects to Nigeria Gas Company’s (NGC) facilities was vital for conveying gas to the Alaoji Power Plant.
The gas now being supplied to the Alaoji power plant during the interim period, the company said, would come from Seven Energy, while NGC would transport the gas through their pipeline and the section of the NOPL.
