South Africa is expected to renew Total’s offshore exploration rights next year, Lindiwe Mekwe, chief executive of the state petroleum agency said, according to a Reuters report. According to Mekwe,the extension should be granted in Q2 of next year.
Total holds Block 11B/12B as operator with a 50% interest, partnered with CNR International. The French firm spud in 2014, however mechanical problems with the rig in rough seas caused drilling to be halted.
