Tuesday, September 12, 2023

Today, TotalEnergies Uganda celebrated 20 million man-hours on the Tilenga Project without an accident. The company posted on its X account (formerly Twitter) that this milestone is “evidence that with vigilance, collective effort & permanent application of the Golden rules, an accident-free workplace is possible.”

The Tilenga Project is operated by Total E&P Uganda (TEPU) and covers three production licenses from Contract Area 1 and three production licenses from LA-2. The production licenses include the Jobi-Rii, Gunya, Ngiri, Kasamene-Wahrindi, Kigogole-Ngara and Nsoga.

According to the Petroleum Authority of Uganda, the project includes the following facilities:

  1. i) Development of a Central Processing Facility (CPF) with capacity to process 190,000 barrels of oil and 700,000 barrels of total liquid per day.
  2. ii) Drilling of over 426 wells (200 water injector wells, 196 oil producer wells, 2 polymer pilot wells and 28 reference wells) which are planned to be drilled on 31 well-pads.

iii) Over 160 kilometers of flow-lines which will transport crude oil and water from the wells to the CPF.

  1. iv) 95 km 24-inch feeder pipeline which will transport the processed crude oil from the CPF in Buliisa to the export hub and Refinery in Kabaale in Hoima District.
  2. v) Other supporting infrastructure include Victoria Nile Crossing, Temporary and Permanent Operation Support Base camps and a Lake Water Abstraction Station.

Philippe Groueix, GM of TotalEnergies Uganda, posted multiple tweets on his X account congratulating the team for this collective effort to avoid any lost-time incidents.  “Congratulations to all, it means a lot to me on what we can achieve together. Let’s guard against complacency and remain focused to celebrate 30 million manhours early next year,” he stated on one post.
