Tullow Ready for Seismic Off Comoros Islands

Sunday, July 28, 2019

Tullow Oil completed its entry into Comoros Islands, becoming the operator of Blocks 35, 36, and 37 in the waters off Comoros. The Irish independent revealed in its Half Yearly Results that a 3D seismic contract award was approved by Tullow’s JV partners and the government.

With the ESIA now approved, acquisition of a 3,000 sq km 3D seismic survey is expected to commence in September 2019.

Tullow Oil acquired its 35% interest in Comoros Blocks 35, 36 and 37 from Discover Exploration in November 2018. As part of the transaction, it became the operator and agreed to partly carry Discover for a 3D seismic survey and the first exploration well. At the same time, Discover signed a binding agreement to acquire the entire issued share capital of Bahari Resources, its 40% JV partner in the Comoros PSC.

The Comoros PSC covers a deep-water area of around four million acres and is outboard of the estimated 200 Tcf of gas in place discovered in Rovuma Areas 1 and 4, offshore Mozambique.
