Tunisian Production Restrained

Thursday, May 11, 2017

Tunisia is having problems keeping its production numbers up due to protests in some of its oil producing areas. Protests over jobs and development have halted production at international oil firm’s fields.

Speaking to reporters Tunisia’s Energy Minister Hela Chikhrouhou said the sit-ins halted production at the Baguel and Tarfa fields operated by Perenco. Besides Perenco’s fields Serinus Energy has had its Chouech Essaida field shut in since the end of February.

The protests are taking place in the southern Tataouine province where ENI and OMV have operations, but have also begun in Kebili region. OMV said in the first week of May that it had moved 700 non-essential staff and contractors from its operations in the region as a security precaution. Both ENI and OMV have said their production has not been affected by the protests.
