Libya’s Elephant and Al Sharara Oilfields Restart

Wednesday, September 18, 2013

According to reports out of Libya, production has resumed on the Al Sharara and Elephant oilfields. The restart of production ends the two-week shut-in at the two fields.

The reopening of the fields was confirmed to the Libya Herald by both the deputy minister of oil and gas, Omar Shakmak, and the Crisis Committee set up by Congress to deal with the oil and gas crisis.

“The process of pumping oil again from the two oil fields Elephant and Al-Sharara into the pipelines to the Zawiya refinery and port started…” Shakmak said.

While there is not believed to be any damage done to either of the fields’ facilities, there could be ‘negative impacts’ in some fields that have not yet resumed work, Shakmak said.
