Libya could see the two remaining terminals in the eastern portion of the country reopened. The rebels who have been blockading the Es Sider and Ras Lanuf terminals said they would reopen them on July 3 as a goodwill gesture, giving Libya a significant boost in exports.
The rebels reopened two smaller oil terminals in April.
If the ports are indeed reopened Libya could potentially lift its exports to 500,000 bpd, it should be noted that past deals to reopen ports have failed to bear fruit.
“An agreement has been reached between the government and the Cyrenaica government to reopen Es Sider and Ras Lanuf as a goodwill gesture,” Ali al-Hasi, a rebel spokesman, told Reuters. He linked the move to parliamentary election on June 25, the results of which have yet to be published.
