UK Court to Decide on Shell Case

Monday, January 9, 2017

Shell will find out this week if it will be facing trial in the UK over crude spill allegations in Nigeria. The UK court judge will determine whether the Bille and Ogale communities in Nigeria’s Niger Delta can sue the firm in British courts.

While Shell would like the case heard in Nigerian courts, the communities maintain that their courts are unfit to hear the case against the multinational’s subsidiary in Nigeria, SPDC.

As for the actual spills, Shell denies responsibility, saying they were due to sabotage and illegal refining.
