A UN camp in South Sudan fell under attack on April 17 when a group of armed civilian under the guise of peaceful protesters delivering a petition forced their way on to the base and opened fire. The base was sheltering an estimated 5,000 civilians.
According to reports at least 48 people were killed and 60 wounded in the attack on the base located in Bor. UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said dozens of civilians were wounded, but the exact number of people killed or wounded had not yet been confirmed.
Two UN peacekeepers were wounded repelling the armed mob, he said.
