US Airstrikes Aid Libya in Ousting Daesh

Tuesday, October 18, 2016

Daesh (ISIS) militants in Libya were the target of US airstrikes as they carried out 30 strikes over a three-day period. The strikes were carried out on the city of Sirte and were used to give pro-government forces an opening to push out militant troops from the remaining districts they hold.

Libyan forces, mostly from Misrata, are close to ending Daesh’s occupation of Sirte. According to reports they are pushing ahead, street by street, despite snipers and suicide bombers.

Since August the Libyan forces have been helped by US air strikes and coordination with small teams of Western special forces on the ground.
