US Lifts Sanctions on Cote d’Ivoire

Thursday, September 15, 2016

The US has lifted economic sanctions on Cote d’Ivoire. The sanctions on the West African country were put in place more than a decade during the country’s civil war.

President Barack Obama lifted the economic sanctions citing a successful presidential election in 2015 and its progress in fighting illegal trafficking of natural resources.

“Cote d’Ivoire has taken important steps to strengthen its governing and economic institutions and reconcile the differences that led to war,” White House National Security Council spokesman Ned Price said in a statement.
