US Reopens SBM Investigation

Monday, February 15, 2016

US authorities reopens an investigation into alleged bribery revolving around SBM Offshore and several countries, including two African nations.

The US Department of Justice has “made information requests in connection with that inquiry. The company is seeking further clarification about the scope of the inquiry,” SBM Offshore said.

The company had reached a settlement with Dutch and US authorities in late-2014 regarding $240 million for bribes allegedly paid between 2007 and 2011 in Angola, Brazil, and Equatorial Guinea.

In a statement SBM said it would be setting an additional $245 million aside for a possible settlement with Brazilian authorities.
