US Sending Troops to Counter Boko Haram

The US is sending troops to West Africa to aid in the battle against the Boko Haram. President Barak Obama informed the US Congress that he will send an estimated 300 military personnel to Cameroon.

An advance force of US military personnel has arrived in Cameroon, an administration official said on condition of anonymity, according to a Reuters report.

The forces sent by Obama will be conducting airborne intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance operations, the official said, adding they would be armed for their own protection.
