A new report from the Energy Information Agency (EIA) revealed that fossil fuels are still king in the US, continuing its more than one century reign. The EIA report said fossil fuels have provided more than 80% of total US energy consumption during that period.
Since 1928, when consumption of natural gas surpassed that of biomass, the three fossil fuels—petroleum, natural gas, and coal—have been the most consumed fuels in the US.
Despite being the leading source of energy in the US, the use of fossil fuels has declined a bit. According to the EIA in 2016, fossil fuels accounted for 81% of total of the US’ energy consumption, the lowest fossil fuel share in the past century.
