Varel International Oil and Gas Drill Bits Launches New Application
Release
Varel International Oil and Gas Drill Bits has launched a new application which allows users to instantly complete hydraulics analysis with the use of a smartphone. The application’s calculations are inclusive of total annular velocity with inputs for multiple strings of drill pipe and drill collar diameters.
In addition, the platform houses multiple reference documents for both fixed cutter and roller cone drill bits with a quick reference total flow area calculator.
Varel Field Engineering Manager Karl Rose was instrumental in development of the application and its deployment. His team tested and modified the package of information before its release.
“Our goal was to deliver a useful tool to the field,” explained Rose. “Something that would enhance our customers’ drilling performance and help them achieve their objectives efficiently and effectively. We feel like this instrument meets that goal.”

This release follows the successful launch of the Varel International Mining & Industrial mining app which allows the instant calculation of drilling costs, air pressure and flow rates in blasthole drilling applications.
