Vitol to Take Angola LNG Deliveries

Angola’s LNG export facility will begin delivering shipments to Vitol’s commodity trading business before the end of the year, according to a spokeswoman from Angola LNG. Under the deal between Angola LNG and Vitol, the trading firm will have guaranteed access to LNG supplies for the first time.

“Deliveries will start later this year, but the terms of this agreement are commercially confidential,”the Angola LNG spokeswoman said in a Reuters report. Whether those deliveries are continuous or sporadic will be anyone’s guess.

To say Angola’s LNG facility has had some troubles would be putting it mildly, the plant was troubled before its construction was even complete. The project was delayed on multiple occasions and its pricetag continually grew throughout the construction process. As the plant neared completion, just hours before LNG production was to begin, a fire broke out when a high voltage cable overloaded. While the plant finally achieved first production in mid-2013, it has seen countless stoppages in the months and years since
