West Nile Delta’s Phase 9B On the Way

Shell will start producing gas from the next phase of its West Nile Delta deepwater concession, Phase 9B, in Egypt. Shell gained operatorship of the concession when it acquired BG in 2016.

The NGT1 drilling rig was moved from the Gulf of Mexico to the location of the Phase 9B wells to start drilling operations. Phase 9B includes the drilling eight production wells and two exploration wells.

The news comes from a report submitted by Hesham El Attar, Head of Rashid Petroleum Company/Burullus Gas Company (Rashpetco), in front of the country’s Minister of Petroleum, Tarek El Molla, to review the status of Phase 9B.

The first gas production is planned to kick off from the first three wells during fiscal year  2018/2019, the report pointed out, adding that production from the remaining wells will be added to production in 2019 as the $807-million project is completed.
